Mr. Berman is a former Assistant State’s Attorney for Anne Arundel County. During his time as a prosecutor, he handled thousands of criminal matters including but not limited to domestic violence, DUIs, thefts, and drug offenses. Mr. Berman started on the District Court team before being promoted to Circuit Court, and ultimately to the Auto-Manslaughter Trial Team.
As an Assistant State’s Attorney, Mr. Berman took on numerous responsibilities in addition to his sizable caseload. He was responsible for screening DUI cases involving Drug Recognition Experts, Blood Kits, and/or Hospital Records. Mr. Berman served as the lead prosecutor for the Evaluation Review Docket, where he conducted competency and NCR hearings. He trained colleagues on DUI case law and issue spotting for serious traffic cases. Mr. Berman was also appointed as a Special Prosecutor in Talbot County.
Mr. Berman graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law with a Concentration in Litigation and Advocacy. While in law school, he served as an Associate Comments Editor on the University of Baltimore Law Review. As a student attorney with the Disability Law Clinic, Mr. Berman successfully represented clients in civil commitment proceedings. Mr. Berman also worked as a Certified Mediator for the Health Advocacy Unit in the Office of the Attorney General. He was a member of the Royal Shannonhouse Honor Society, served as a Research Assistant for Professor J. Amy Dillard, and was a Peer Advisor to his fellow students. Mr. Berman also honed his legal skills as a law clerk for experienced litigation attorneys at a law firm in Annapolis.
Upon graduating law school, Mr. Berman served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable J. Michael Wachs in the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County. Mr, Berman drafted judicial opinions, orders, and directives on behalf of Judge Wachs. He also reviewed motions and conducted legal research on a range of civil and criminal matters to advise and assist the Judge in preparation of court rulings.
Mr. Berman was born and raised in the state of Maryland. He graduated from University of Maryland College Park, and attended DeMatha Catholic High School. Mr. Berman brings his considerable legal knowledge and trial experience to Alpert Schreyer, where he provides his clients with excellent service.
