Drinking and driving never mix, and in a recent case from Virginia, their combination led to a fatal car crash.
The crash occurred in southwest Virginia this past week and resulted in the death of a 21 year old man and leaving one Maryland man to be charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter, as well as driving under the influence.
According to the Virginia State Police, the collision resulted from a pickup truck that was driving in the wrong lanes of Route 19, traveling south against traffic in the northbound lanes. This lead to a head-on collision with a Pontiac early Sunday morning.
The police statement said that the driver of the Pontiac, a young man from Virginia, was found dead at the scene, despite wearing a seatbelt. The Maryland man who was driving the pickup was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries from the crash. He was charged and taken into police custody upon release from the hospital.
