Maryland Drunk Driver Arrested after Ramming into Several Cars, Mailboxes

ABC 2 News reports that Maryland police arrested a 21-year-old man from Westminster after driving drunk resulted in him hitting at least five parked cars, three mailboxes, and a stop sign in the early morning hours of January 4th. According to the article, police began their search for the driver after responding to a report of a white truck hitting a mailbox and linking the incident to another report of a hit-and-run accident involving a parked car in the area.

After receiving a description of the vehicle involved in the accidents, a Maryland State Trooper found the suspect’s vehicle not far from the scene of the accidents. When questioning the suspect, officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol and an open case of beer in the vehicle. In addition, the truck had several scratches and dents along its side and was missing its front bumper and signal lights.

The man was placed under arrest and has been charged with eight counts of failing to report or remain at the scene of an accident, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, negligent driving, and driving on a revoked or suspended license. There were no reported injuries from the incident.

Driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) and Maryland drunk driving accidents can result in serious penalties and prison time for those convicted. Maryland law severely increases possible prison sentences and fines for defendants when drunk driving results in accidents, hit-and-runs, and injuries to others. Without experienced legal defense, a defendant can be left to the mercy of the court.
