Halloween weekend in Howard County included an impaired driving enforcement detail that resulted in multiple DUI arrests.
The Howard County Police Department enacted an impaired driving enforcement detail from Saturday night to Sunday morning, which resulted in 14 drivers being charged with driving under the influence, while another was arrested for alleged drug possession. Extra officers were included in patrol for this detail, according to the Howard County Police Department (HCPD).
Drivers ranged in age from 20 years old to 52 and five were from Columbia. The remaining drivers came from Ellicott City, Oxon Hill, Parkville, Catonsville, Severn, Towson, Mount Airy and Marriottsville.
Like other Maryland police departments, Howard Countys impaired driving initiatives include sobriety checkpoints to discourage impaired driving all year long, with this checkpoint being funded by a grant from the Maryland Highway Safety office.
With the holiday season upon us, expect more sobriety checkpoint initiatives across the state.
