A fatal car accident resulting in the death of an elderly woman has led to a McDowell County man being charged with DUI causing death, police say.
A trooper from the West Virginia State Police Welch detachment worked at the crash scene along with the Iaeger Volunteer Fire Department and Jan Care Ambulance.
According to the trooper’s initial report, a Ford SUV was traveling north when it encountered a Chevrolet sedan traveling south. Crossing the center line, the SUV struck the sedan. The driver of the sedan, an elderly female, was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the crash.
The SUV driver, a 40-year-old man was later arrested and charged with DUI causing death. The driver was processed at the Welch detachment before being transported to the McDowell County Holding Facility near the McDowell County Courthouse.
The driver is scheduled to be arraigned.
