        Question:

Why should I choose Alpert Schreyer to represent me in my Maryland legal matter?

        Answer:

Why Did You Decide to Join Your Firms?

Andy:  There was a point in time when I wanted to associate with a partner and collaborate on handling cases. I went to a number of the judges who I have a lot of respect for, and I asked them who they thought would be a good candidate for someone to get together with to form a new partnership. I told them what my idea of being a partner was, what kind of law office I wanted to run, and why I thought it would be a good idea to collaborate with someone. Several of them said if you’re looking for a person in this particular area of law, there’s no finer person than Mike Schreyer. One of the things that I wanted to make sure of was that the lawyer that I associated with was someone who had tremendous credentials and a past history of winning big cases. With Michael, I achieved both of those things. Michael is the past chair of the Negligence Committee for the Maryland State Bar Association. He has lectured extensively across the state of Maryland on negligence issues and personal injury issues, and the best part about Michael is that he’s had many verdicts in excess of six figures. Not many people know this, but Mike is actually featured by the Maryland State Bar Association in their magazine as one of the top small practices in all of Maryland. I was really excited when I heard that validation. That’s the reason why I felt that it would be a good match to put our practices together.

How Well Can You Handle Big Cases?

Michael: When a new client comes in, the first question a lot of times is this case is going to be against a big company. Maybe it’s a metro, or maybe it’s a richer manufacturer, maybe it’s the state of Maryland, or maybe it’s against a big insurance company, a nationwide insurance company or an international insurance company. They ask, can you take that case? Can you handle that kind of a case? It’s very easy for us to respond that we’ve been doing that for over 20 years. We’ve been in courtrooms in western Maryland, in northern Maryland, southern Maryland, on the eastern shore. We’ve been in federal court in Baltimore and in the Greenbelt. We’ve been to the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals, just below the Supreme Court. We have the experience of fighting against some very, very big companies, successfully producing outcomes that our clients are satisfied with. With a team of two experienced attorneys with all of that trial experience, you won’t go wrong.

What Should a New Client Expect from Your Firm?

Michael:  When we meet with a new client, often times the person that comes in feels they’ve run up against a brick wall. They’re in a difficult situation. If you’ve been through an automobile collision or if you’ve lost someone who’s died in an automobile collision, you feel like trouble is at your doorstep, and it’s never going to go away. What we enjoy most is reaching out to you, looking you in the eye, and saying we can make a difference, and we’re not going to stop until we do. There’s not much that gives an attorney a better feeling than making that pledge and following through on it. That’s what motivates us. That’s what gets us going in the morning and what keeps us working until late in the night. I can say the same is true for my staff. They see nothing more important than getting you the results you came in to see us about.

Andy:  When I meet with a person who’s been accused of a crime, they feel like nothing can be done. They want someone to hold their hand and get them through this situation. Frankly, what I try to explain to them is that that’s not exactly always the case. We have to make a thorough examination of the situation and be prepared. Even in cases where it seems hopeless to the individual who’s been charged, we have to be prepared. The fact that we go out there, we do the investigation, we hire the experts, and we bring the right people to court causes the government, that is the state’s attorney’s offices, on many occasions to make much more favorable plea arrangements with our clients, and often times to cease charges so as not to have to try certain cases based on certain issues. I feel that because we actually inject that into how we handle cases, in other words, because we add that into the mixture of how we deal with the state’s attorney’s offices and the prosecutor’s offices and the federal prosecuting authorities, we have the ability to get very, very good results for our clients. That’s what gives us the satisfaction, which leads to the ability to really help people.
