Maryland State Trooper Charged with DUI

MARYLAND STATE TROOPER CHARGED WITH DUIMD STATE TROOPER AMONG 51 DUI CHARGES OVER SUPER BOWL WEEKEND

On a weekend where several thousand stops resulted in over 50 DUI arrests, one of those arrests Saturday night was an off duty Maryland state trooper.

Maryland state police had a three-day initiative to combat drunk driving throughout Super Bowl weekend. During this time, 51 drivers were charged with drunk driving by state troopers.  One trooper, John Dize, Jr., was himself charged with driving under the influence of alcohol for an off-duty incident where he was involved in a single-vehicle crash in Marion Station.

Dize did suffer injuries in the crash and was brought to Peninsula Regional Medical Center.  According to state police, he was also charged with failing to obey designated lane directions and has been suspended.

It was Dize’s own colleagues from the Princess Anne barrack who responded to the crash and rushed to the scene.  The troopers arrived at the accident scene near the intersection of Hudson Corner Road and Landon Store Road where they saw that Dize’s pickup truck had gone off the road and into a field.  The accident happened around 11 pm on Saturday, February 6.

Dize is a trooper first class and was off duty when the incident occurred.  He has been suspended with pay.  “There is zero tolerance for drinking and driving,” said Cpl. DaVaughn Parker, a Maryland State Police spokesman.

Troopers stopped over 4,500 vehicles for speeding, aggressive driving, distracted driving and other traffic violations including not properly wearing a seat belt.  Over 2,900 traffic citations were given in addition to the 51 DUI arrests.
